OK, so I know I'm a almost year late, but various things: Giant piles of paper around my desk, obsessively checking www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com and planning a wedding have prevented me from writing about Rilo Kiley's 2007 release "Under the Blacklight."
Specifically, extolling "Breakin' Up," Jenny Lewis' kiss off to, I suspect, Mr. Bad News of "Portions For Foxes" Fame.
Have a listen to it, you'll hear what I mean:
God willing, I won't have to go through any more breakups, but it's nice to know that this bouncy, jubilant tune can be added to the recovery song rotation right after "I Will Survive."
And anyway, singing the chorus, "Ooo, it feels good to be free," at the top of my lungs on my drive home from work on Friday is a perfectly good use for the song, too.
