"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest revealed that 97.5 million people voted for the show's finale — 23 million more people than voted last year. Strange, considering the show's ratings have been dropping off. Anyway, the results were tallied by the show's opening, but Fox made me wait two more hours for the big announcement.
After B-list celeb sightings and a shameless plug for Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," finalists David Archuleta, aka Baby Face, and David Cook, aka Cutie Pie, joined forces to sing Chad Kroeger's "Hero."
Then came shameless plug No. 2 for the upcoming flick "The Love Guru." I actually laughed when Mike Myers called Cutie Pie out for his fauxtee and tried to shave him. Baby Face was probably scarred by the experience.
Then second runner-up Syesha Mercado was joined on stage by Seal.
White seemed to be the color of the night, even though judge Randy Jackson was rocking a red Sgt. Pepper-esque blazer.
A Donna Summer montage followed, in which she shamelessly plugged her new single. I see a theme here. Is it 10 p.m. yet?
