Bringing hot pink back.
After watching retro classic "Pretty in Pink" Thursday night, I decided to continue the theme at my pre-wedding manicure Friday. Hot pink is so hot right now.
Armed with neon nails and a dress recycled from a college formal, I was ready to close out Wedding Bonanza 2008.
June 2008 Archives
Maybe I've been living under a rock lately. I knew that Drew Carey took over hosting duties on "The Price is Right" for 250-year-old Bob Barker.
But, did you know that the show is now on at 3 p.m.? What? I feel like something is wrong with the world, off-kilter. It's supposed to be on at 11 a.m. so all the kids and unemployed can watch during the day. At least, that's what I did when I was home from school sick.
Oh well. Here are a few oldie bud goodies!
J Bros. take on politics and ... Blue Steel?

Excuse me while I dip up out of here a day early. Don't worry, you'll still be able to find out about weekend activities here, here or here.
Get the scoop about a presale for Live, Collective Soul and Blues Traveler tickets here.
Check out the Jonas Brothers interview here or here. During the interview, I asked the older two J Bros. if they plan to vote in the presidential election. They're answer: Yes.
Netflix helped me survive single life without cable.
The three-movies-at-a-time package for $18.01 a month came in handy when nothing good was on channel 8, the only almost-clear channel I got with rabbit ears.
I watched five straight episodes of HBO's "The Wire" and got completely caught up on "Gray's Anatomy."

But then, I got married and along with a husband, I got DirectTV and DVR. And Netflix wasn't a necessity anymore.
I need you, boo.
The BET Awards show aired Tuesday night. If you missed the broadcast, catch it at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Comedian D.L. Hughley hosted the show. Young Jeezy, Keyshia Cole, Usher, Ne-Yo, Kanye West and many other artists performed.
You don't really need to know anything else.
But, really, dont go see it.
It's awful. Just awful.
This afternoon, I interviewed Terry Fator, ventriloquist, comedian, singer, celebrity impersonator and 2007 winner of "America's Got Talent."
I'll admit, I didn't know who Fator was before yesterday. (I rarely turn on my TV.) But now, I'll bet I know a lot more about him than you do.
For instance, did you know that:
*He's been a huge David Letterman fan since college.
*He worked as a janitor in his family's business.
*He loves signing autographs.
*He was once the lead singer of a country-western band.
He's coming to Lancaster for a live performance at the American Music Theatre on July 8. Check out the July 3 FlipSide for my story and more fun stuff from the interview.
The hook brings them back.
What better way to spend a summer night then listening to great music? It seems like there are concert announcements everyday around here.
I already broke the news that York-native act Live is teaming up with Collective Soul and Blues Traveler for a summer tour. But news dropped Tuesday that the '90s rock powerhouses will hit up Hershey's Giant Center at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1.
My husband and I stopped by Granfalloons in York last night for a little date. (Actually, I think it's because we haven't gotten to the grocery store in, well, I don't even know how long.)
The bartender/server hooked us up with drinks almost immediately and handed us two menus. Before our drinks we're finished, we had two more awaiting us on the table. (Of course, that can sometimes be a not-so-good thing when the rum-and-diets are strong, but I wasn't driving.)
The best part? The food. I've never had a better chicken caesar salad. And Brent had the $9 special of 10 wings and a half-rack of ribs. Perfection. So, if you're looking for a new place to try, Granfalloons has it. Fast, friendly service, great food, fun atmosphere.
Feel the fierceness.
I drowned my sorrows about my upcoming separation from the scene, with a farewell drink pitcher at WaterWay Bar & Grill Thursday evening.
I traveled back to the East Side Friday for part two of Wedding Bonanza 2008. Luckily, I had Coldplay's new album "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" to keep me company.
Yes. I went to Target first thing Tuesday morning and paid $9.98 plus tax for the actual CD instead of iTuning it.
Yes. I sang it at the top of my lungs in my car for the rest of the week regardless of what other motorists would think.
(If you haven't noticed I have no shame yet, you will by reading the rest of the entry.)
For a few years now, my family and I have been celebrating special occasions at The Works in Wyomissing, just outside of Reading. According to Google Maps, it's about an hour drive from York or 53 miles.
I describe it as a Chuck E. Cheese for adults or similar to Dave & Buster's if you've ever been to one of those.
I want my MTV...with music videos again.
Everybody's working for the weekend and now it's here. Click here, here or here for ways to spend the first few days of summer.
Former Nickelodeon star Jamie Lynn Spears,17, gave birth to a baby girl Thursday. The name: Maddie Briann. Casey Aldridge, 19, the baby daddy, and Jamie Lynn are engaged to be married. At least Maddie will have two cousins, Britney Spear's sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, to cause trouble with in the future.
Cyd Charisse cuts a rug with Gene Kelly.
Dancer and Actress Cyd Charisse died Tuesday at the age of 87. Charisse danced with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Her famous roles were in "Singin' in the Rain" and "Silk Stockings."
I'm hooked on the Discovery Channel's six-part documentary "When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions".
You must watch "America's Next Top Doll," Entertainment Weekly's glorious spoof on "America's Next Top Model." It might be the best thing since "Action League Now."
Parents magazine did a survey to find the best family-friendly chain. Their research was based on criteria such as the availability of crayons and how well the location accommodates children with food allergies.
Read on to find out who they chose.
"True Lies?" That concept, like the rest of my weekend, just doesn't make sense.
It is my belief that random gatherings always trump the best-laid plans. Case and point: Friday night. The fact that it was my last weekend in York for a while combined with the fact that my friend was visiting for out of town led to one fliffed out evening.
If the grocery store prices on produce aren't enough to drive you to farmer's markets and roadside stands, maybe the FDA's warning about Salmonella will.
Burger King, Wawa, Chili's, McDonald's and White Rose Bar & Grill are just a few places I've seen take tomatoes off the menu.
Travel back to the '90s this summer.

York-native rock group Live will hit the road this summer with Collective Soul and Blues Traveler.

Dig out the spandex. Grab the AquaNet. Don anything leopard print or equally loud.

You'll fit in with the beehives and blue eyeshadow 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at HonFest in Baltimore's Hampden neighborhood.
If for some ridiculous reason, you've never been to "Bawlmer," seen "Cry Baby," "Hairspray" or any other John Waters brainchild, you have missed the hon.
A co-worker who shall remain nameless sent this to me today. From surf balling to sharp shooting, work never seemed so fun!

Don't mess with success

Enough with the spinoffs already. An article that came out Wednesday said "Gossip Girl" character Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) will get her own show. It might have been premature, but it got the rumor mill going.
Saturday night my sweetie and I ventured down south to Baltimore to catch Rilo Kiley at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore.
The groups sing-along inducing pop totally kicked me out of my post-cleaning-in-5-billion-degree-heat stupor, and made me forget my achin' feet (Note, no matter how cute your shoes are, if the plan is to stand for three hours, heels are a bad choice).

If you think Death Cab For Cutie is just another whiney, emo outfit, you've obviously never seen them live. Monday night, I headed to the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. with my buddy to catch the Seattle band's show. We were both blown away.
For starters, the arena was sweltering. Luckily, it cooled off as the night wore on.
The buzz about the new roller coaster Fahrenheit at Hersheypark is worth the admission in and of itself. The twists, the turns ... the 97-degree negative drop. It's the kind of coaster that makes you scream but no sound escapes from your lips.
So..
Crocodile Mile = retro way to beat the heat
After I cruised around the Street Rod Nationals East at the York Expo Center Friday afternoon, I headed back to the East side of the state.
I'm always on the look out for new restaurants and often times, I see old ones closing.
Wing Zone in Gabriel Brother's Plaza has a sign on the door that the franchise location is for sale.
Pepper's American Grill, 54 Carlisle Ave., York is now Big Momma Home Cooking, 843-0609.
Healthy Deli Cafe, 9 W. Philadelphia St., York, closed and a sign advertises that 9 West Cafe is opening in its place. The number is 718-3117.

AOL Money recently compiled a list of the 25 things they wish would make a comeback.
Do you miss.....

Classic rockers Yes have canceled their 40th anniversary summer tour. They were supposed to play at 7 p.m. July 16 at Hersheypark Stadium.
On a brighter note, York rockers the Underwater are back in the states and just dropped their new album "Forces." Check back for updates from their U.S. tour. To read about their European adventures, click here.
July 4 marks the day in 1776 when the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. America celebrates the day as its Independence Day.
We’re asking readers to share their own declarations of independence. Have you recently bought your own home? Quit smoking? Paid off a debt? Left a dead-end job or relationship?
Most people would probably watch "Gossip Girl" for fashion tips instead of "The Office." But don't discount Dunder Mifflin just yet. Some of show's characters have come a long way. Think about Pam. She went from shabby to chic in the show's fourth season. Click here to get Scranton style. Click here to check out recaps of season four episodes. That's what she wore.
Weezer's new video for its single "Pork and Beans" is chock full o' pop-culture references. Several YouTube stars and Internet inspirations make cameo appearences. See if you can place them all. Rivers Cuomo is also rocking a sweet 'stache. The bands new album dropped Tuesday. Get it here. Read a review here.
Warning: This song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
My dear friend Kristy from my first newspaper job lives in Lancaster. We try to get together for dinner regularly, but we always end up meeting near the York Galleria or Park City Center because it's the easiest landmark along Route 30. But in an attempt to meet in the middle, I stumbled across McCleary's Irish Pub in Marietta, Lancaster County. It's about a 30 minutes from the office in West Manchester Township. It's tucked along the river in the quaint little historic river town.

Much like Coldplay, I "Viva la Vida"-ed this weekend.
Friday night, I saw "Sex and the City: The Movie" with seven girlfriends in Towson, Md. We had a blast. See what SATC character you are by clicking here.
Saturday night, I broke my pattern this weekend and tried out some different local bars. I kicked off my night at Fat Daddy's. Maybe I was still living my own personal SATC fantasy, or maybe the pre-game wine clouded my judgement, but I promptly fished my dancing shoes out of my closet and headed to Hardware Bar.
I had a date Saturday night. My husband and I went to Doc Holliday's in Fairview Township for dinner and enjoyed a show at Harrisburg Comedy Zone after.
Try harder next year.
Sunday night, I watched a two-hour promo for bad summer movies disguised as the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. The show outdid itself this year with uninteresting skits and lame popcorn statue presentation speeches. The snooze fest seemed pretty rehearsed and even ended a few minutes early, despite the mind numbing amount of commercials. There wasn't a whole lot to say about it, but I was able to scrounge together a few highlights.
Hello lover! "Sex and the City: The Movie" won me over after I saw it for the second time this weekend. I gasped, laughed and got misty-eyed with the rest of the audience. Even though I'm a loyal SATC fan, I had doubts about the movie. But I felt that it was able to translate the tone and essence of the series to the big screen. Of course, it wasn't all a bed of roses. Here are my top-five compliments and complaints:
