Saturday night my sweetie and I ventured down south to Baltimore to catch Rilo Kiley at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore.
The groups sing-along inducing pop totally kicked me out of my post-cleaning-in-5-billion-degree-heat stupor, and made me forget my achin' feet (Note, no matter how cute your shoes are, if the plan is to stand for three hours, heels are a bad choice).
There was much dancing and carrying on (and a lot of air guitar from the dude standing in front of me), and despite the fact that lead singer Jenny Lewis and her band were a bit out of my eyesight, Lewis' voice soared as if she were standing right next to me.
The group played a nice mix of tunage from their new album ("The Moneymaker," "Silver Lining," "15" and "Dreamworld" among others) as well as some from "More Adventurous") (including "Ripchord" - a personal favorite - "It's a Hit" - OK, another favorite - and, of course, "Portions For Foxes" for their encore), and a couple that I didn't recognize, so I'm assuming they're from an earlier album that I'm not cool enough to own.
Earlier this month I wrote about how great the song "Breakin' Up" off their latest album, "Under the Blacklight," so I was amped when the disco-beat came on and the crowd started cheering. All the ladies in the audience seemed to join forces for the joyous chorus, sending a unanimous kiss-off to all the men that did them wrong.
The most impressive part of the evening was just how powerful and on-target Jenny Lewis' voice was through the night. Her voice is great and she sang with confidence, sounding more like a studio recording then a live show.
I'd definitely see them live a second time.
