Weekend roundup

Crocodile Mile = retro way to beat the heat

After I cruised around the Street Rod Nationals East at the York Expo Center Friday afternoon, I headed back to the East side of the state.

I filled up on tomato pie and cake at a graduation party Friday night, which added to the queasiness when I watched the bloody flick "No Country For Old Men" later. Javier Bardem gave a stunning performance, which will most likely give me nightmares for years to come.
Saturday, I tried to avoid the heat by lying by the pool. I couldn't avoid the sunburn, though. That night, I went to a friend's barbecue. After an '80s power hour and slip 'n' slide, it was off to Manayunk to try and catch a glimpse of a renegade downhill bike race. The cops beat us there.
In the rest of the world, local singer DaNica Shirey earned a spot as a finalist in an online talent competition and "Kung Fu Panda" kicked it at the box office.
Check back tomorrow for a review of the Death Cab for Cutie concert.
