After a grueling, yet gorgeous 35-mile bike ride through York County, I met a friend for lunch in York.
The plan was to meet at 1:30 p.m. at Bull on Beaver (the cafe in White Rose Bar & Grill).
We ate lunch and eventually were joined by one or two other parties. Then we walked around the few downtown shops that were open past 3 p.m. We walked in two. Then looked at each other and frowned.
"What happened to York?"
We decided to sip a drink at the outdoor tables of Harp and Fiddle. While there, we learned that Colosseo (the upscale Italian restaurant next door) closed.
Apparently, people want great restaurants in downtown York, but don't visit enough to keep the eateries running.
The best entertainment we had while in York was watching a Jeep Cherokee pull into a parking place followed by a Chevy Malibu. Without looking, the Jeep slammed into reverse and then slammed into the Malibu. Fortunately, they were civil, but it took the police at least 20 minutes or more to get there. We had time to watch one party offer gummy bears to the children of the other.
Is York on its way to being a ghost town? It was pretty dead on Saturday, that's for sure.
