Mud sales, triathlons and basbeball
While I could never live up to Erin's action-packed weekends full of dancing, dining and pink nail polish, my weekend was full of summer traditions that included Amish auctioneers.
It started at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning at a mud sale in my small hometown of Refton, Lancaster County. For the past 12 years, my family and I get up super early to head to the fire hall for out-of-this-world deals to benefit the local fire company. My parents kitchen is crock pot country with barbecue, baked beans and sausages for snacks. Last year, Nate, my husband, bought an organ for $5. This year, we were more practical. We got golf clubs for $1, a spare set of silverware for $2, two quirky flower pots for $1.50 and a basement heater for $1.
Sunday I was up at 6:30 again. I dined on a chocolate brownie Cliff bar for breakfast in preparation for the YWCA of York's 4th annual Women's Y-Tri Sprint Triathlon.
What an inspirational event. There were 170-plus women - individuals and teams - who swam 500 yards, biked 15 miles and ran 3.1 miles. It was my first, but it certainly won't be my last.
Then, the weekend ended with a visit to Sovereign Bank Stadium to see the Revs beat the Long Island Ducks in a high-hitting game. I should have known better, but next time it's dinner before the game. A cheeseburger, chicken sandwich and Bud cost nearly $25 with the service fee and tip for the gal who brought it to us.
A chocolate dipped cone at Dairy Queen was a sweet ending to a memorable summer weekend.
