Glow-in-the-dark swimwear = underrated
Another weekend. Another art festival.
After being blown away by "The Dark Knight" Friday night, me and a fellow art enthusiast headed to Baltimore's Artscape, America's largest free public arts festival.
Slammed by the blues
It was stinking hot on the Baltimore streets, but the temperature began to drop when the sun set.
We caught the end of British band Backdoor Slam's set and were thoroughly impressed with lead singer Davy Knowles' voice and showmanship. The blues/rock band was later selling CD's and my friend found out that they're only 21 years old!
Doughty serenades my soul
After scarfing down a smoothie and fries, I was ready for singer/songwriter Mike Doughty's set. It was just him, an acoustic guitar and a cello player. He sprinkled Soul Coughing tunes into the set and even took suggestions from the crowd. My pal yelled for "Sunken-Eyed Girl" and Doughty honored his request. Even three broken strings couldn't stop the rock.
Livin' La Vida Loco with Sisqo
After a Twisted Tea and $1 Ferris wheel ride (two things that will get you tipsy quick), it was time for the main event: Sisqo and Dru Hill. The R&B quartet's show was complete with choreography, wardrobe changes and plenty of soul. Turns out Sisqo is a Baltimore native. Turns out Dru Hill loves the ladies. They threw out red roses to the crowd and one member had to be carried away from the screaming females. I sang along to all the words of "Thong Song," but couldn't get Will Ferrell's parody of Robert Goulet out of my head.
After the Artscape craziness, there was just enough time to sip on some drinks by the Codorous with my posse at the WaterWay in York. The rest of the weekend was spent recovering on my couch with season one of "The Wire."
Who rocks the "Thong Song" best? Sisqo, Ferrell or Me?
