Let's celebrate M.J.'s b-day with a vintage video.
Thank goodness it's almost Labor Day. Click here, here and here for tons of ways to spend the long weekend.
Think you have a pretty embarassing bar story? Read these and share your own here.
He's blinging like a rock star.

The eight-time golden boy Michael Phelps made a splash in Beijing's Water Cube.
He's still enjoying the spotlight and TV stations are sill hoping that an appearance from him will boost ratings.
Phelps will hand out a Moonman at the MTV VMAs Sept. 7.
He'll host the Sept. 13 premiere of SNL on NBC. The hottest name in hip-hop right now Lil Wayne will be the musical guest.
He will even guest star on "Entourage." I searched IMDB for an upcoming "Aquaman" movie role, but as of now there isn't one in the works.
Who thinks we might see Barack Obama dance on stage tonight during his address at the Democratic National Convention? He has the moves of Rick Astley.
Saturn Vue style

The 10 remaining designers took to the rooftops of New York City like a dysfunctional version of Santa's reindeer.
No, the roof was not on fire, it was full of shiny Saturn hybrid vehicles. Isn't it a coincidence that that the winning PR designer gets a Saturn and all the past designers star in those cheesy Saturn ads during commercial breaks? No. We are well aware that Bravo has perfected the art of the shameless plug.
The challenge, which actually seemed like a challenge, was for the designers to use car materials to create an ensemble.

York rapper and winner of the 2008 Central Pennsylvania Hip-Hop award for Best Male Artist Phene will headline the High Off Life 2008 concert Friday at Club NV, 615 E. Market St. in York. The rapper recently moved to Hotlanta for persue his rap career and is back in town to bring York hip-hop into the spotlight.

Andre Young Jr., son of Grammy Award-winning rapper Dr. Dre, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment Saturday. The cause of death has not been determined. Young was 20 years old.
Dre was born and raised in Compton, founded gangsta rap with the '80s group N.W.A. and later became chief executive of Aftermath Entertainment, putting stars like 50 Cent, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and The Game on the map.
Take me out to the ball game...again

When we last left off, I was at the York Revolution game getting props from a mascot. There were fireworks...later on, after the Revolution beat the Camden Riversharks.
I hoped that when the Olympics ended, so would my lazy days of laying on the couch for three hours straight in the evening. It's not my style to veg.
But after dinner and a few chores last night, I found myself back on the couch watching "America's Toughest Jobs."
What is wrong with me? What force is sucking me into silly prime time TV?
The new man in my life
I found out that there's a limit to the number of things a person can try to cram into one weekend. Strap on your crash helmet and try to keep up. You're in for a two-day roundup of epic proportions.
Are you feeling fierce?

It's tranny time! (I had actually been looking forward to "Project Runway" all week for the first time in a while.) Wednesday's episode was everything I could have hoped for plus glitter, feathers, sparkles and neon fabric.
The episode started with season 4 contestant Chris March entering in a blonde, big-chested Viking ensemble. Hotness.
Out strutted the drag queens, who took a few minutes to properly introduce themselves. With names like Anita Greenkard, Hedda Lettuce, Farrah Moans and Miss Understood, the ladies were ready to rock the runway.
The designers were told to be theatrical and over-the-top. Some seemed slightly horrified. Others looked ready to win the drag race.

The 11th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival kicks off the fall film season at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 and 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St. in York. Tickets are $8. Moviegoers will judge the 12 finalists' films and vote for the best. During the last week of September, more than 100,000 people in 100 cities will vote on the films. The winner will be announced at 10 p.m. Sept. 28 in New York City.

I was devastated to find out last night that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist for Dave Matthews Band, died from complications to an all-terrain-vehicle accident.
Dave Matthews Band has been a big part of my life since my first show in 2001 in Hershey. I've seen them more than 20 times since then. Sadly, the last show I saw was also Roi's final show. On June 28 at Nissan Pavilion in Virginia, I witnessed the band play together as a whole for the last time. After seeing the band so many times it never gets old. The moments of each show sometimes fade, but this one now has a special spot in my memory. I witnessed an end of an era for a band that has changed my life in countless ways.

Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore died Tuesday of complications from injuries he suffered in a June 30 all-terrain vehicle accident. He was 46.
Saxophonist Jeff Coffin, who played with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, had been sitting in for Moore during the band's summer tour. The band stopped at Hersheypark Stadium on June 27.
Irish invasion

Beoga will perform on Sept. 28.
Susquehanna Folk Music Society presents a York Folk preview event from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Yorktowne Hotel, 48 E. Market St. in York. The free event celebrates the 2008-09 York Folk concert series and will feature live music and refreshments. For details, call 840-7435, ext. 208.
Local rockers Head Case will play in Milwaukee at Harley-Davidson's 105th Anniversary Celebration Labor Day weekend. Watch this video of them rocking out at a recent band practice.
This weekend was one of the few times this summer when I didn't have "A Milli" things to do and places to be. It was kind of nice.
LaMotte's Restaurant and Bar in New Freedom is touted as having some of the best crab cakes in York County, but the rest of their menu is just as worthy of notice.
Friday night, Nate, my husband, and I went to LaMotte's for dinner. We were celebrating a few career achievements for both of us, so we were excited to have a memorable experience.
The menu at Lamotte's has so many interesting dishes, that it's really hard to choose. We started with the General Tso's Style Calamari ($7).
Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers coming to York

Fresh York and the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center are partnering to present a new CapLive concert series. CapLive will feature live alternative-music performance at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St. in York.
CapLive shows are all ages. A full service bar is located within the theater and attendees must be 21 to drink. Tickets will range from $10 to $20 and may be purchased online at www.caplivemusic.com, by phone at 846-1111 or at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center ticket center.
For all of you Harry Potter fans, this just in from the Associated Press.
Warner Bros. says it's bumping "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" from its planned November release into next summer.
The sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise about boy wizard Harry now will open July 17 rather than Nov. 21, the studio said today.
Studio President and Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn says the studio has had success with past summer "Harry Potter" releases, including the fifth movie. Horn also says the Writers Guild of America strike had "impacted the readiness of scripts for other films -- changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of."
Fashion is fun (when Bravo plugs your show).

I'm not going to lie, I was flipping back and forth from P. Runway to Olympic women's beach volleyball Wednesday night. I couldn't help myself.
Brooke Shields was the celebrity judge, but everyone already knew that from last week's preview. (Tip of the day: Don't give away the identity of a mystery celebrity guest.)
There was more NBC propoganda as the designers were asked to make an outfit that Shields would wear on the new season of "Lipstick Jungle." It had to be a look that could transition from day to night. Isn't this, like, the 100th time we've seen this type of look on P. Runway?
Political comedian Stephen Colbert made fun of York Haven native Monica Goodling on Wednesday night's episode of "The Colbert Report." "Blame Monica Goodling" was the title of The Word segment of the show.
Radiohead kicks it old-school with "Planet Telex."
Tuesday night, I headed to Camden's Susquehanna Bank Center with my friend and her sister to see Radiohead. (They're probably the one band I'd drive four hours roundtrip for.)
The show was five days shy of the five-year anniversary of my first Radiohead show back on Aug. 18, 2003.
My spot wasn't as good as the one I had at the MGMT show. (We had lawn seats.) But I still had a pretty good view of the stage.
It was a beautiful night. The stars and the Philadelphia skyline were shining, but they couldn't upstage the main attraction.
I am sad to report that the Hess station on Route 83 removed the Blimpie and replaced it with Dunkin' Donuts.
I know, it's a sad day for sub, hoagie, grinder, hero (or what ever you call it) lovers. That was the only Blimpie in York County that I knew of. Sadly, I found out about this from my family, who lives very near a Hess Station in Southern Lancaster County.
I was driving by the old Cafe Bennett building near York Hospital and saw that there is a sign for Rissho Sushi coming soon. Another sushi restaurant in York! AWESOME!
Kanye West as a puppet athlete= priceless
Check out Kanye West's new video for the single, "Champion." Wonder if it has any connection to the Olympic games?
Rusted Root drummer Jim Donovan will conduct two free public drum workshops Sept. 4 at Penn State Harrisburg. The Rhythmic Motivation programs begin at 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. at the campus community center. For details, call 948-6273.
Gold medal for fresh Olympic fashion

Thursday night, I kept it classy with martinis and jazz music provided by saxophonist Tim Warfield at White Rose Bar & Grill. I should have worn wing tips and a fedora.
Friday, I went back to the Jersey Shore. It wouldn't be August without a trip to Avalon. I arrived in time to catch some of the opening ceremonies of the 2008 summer Olympics, and event that made me feel anything but confident about my knowledge of world countries. Team USA looked dapper in Ralph Lauren-designed blazers and newsboy caps.

Grammy- and Academy Award-winning soul singer Isaac Hayes was found dead Sunday at his home in Memphis, Tenn. The cause of death has yet to be determined. He was 65 years old.
He is best known for composing the theme for the 1971 movie "Shaft" and, more recently, provided the voice for "South Park" character Chef. Hayes was conduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
This is another suprising loss after the sudden death of funnyman Bernie Mac Saturday.
In addition to Michael Jackson, Prince and my Auntie Bev, the original Material Girl hits the big 5-0 this year.

On Aug. 16, Madonna joins the ranks of AARP-eligible seniors everywhere.
The Washington Post has a great Madonna appreciation here.
Reporter Hank Stuever compiled a few of her thoughts on "growing up":
News of Bernie Mac's death hit comedy fans hard Saturday.

The 50-year-old stand-up comedian, film and sitcom star died of pneumonia Aug. 9 in Chicago, where he lived. He had suffered from sarcoidosis.
Not everyone was a fan of Mac's audacious humor, but I loved hearing him talk about family life and its ills. He made my sides hurt laughing. Rest in peace, Bernie.
Happy 8/8/08. Here is a video of local singers participating in an Idol Maker class at Duncan Media Productions in North York.

Joshua Allen won the title of America's favorite dancer on "So You Think You Can Dance." I'm pretty stoked since he was one of my favorites from the beginning. Joshua, a street dancer with hardly any formal dance training, was able to pull off every dance style that was thrown at him with little effort. Well, he made it seem effortless, anyway. Joshua won $250,000 and a movie role.
Even though the "Last Comic Standing" Web site isn't updated, I guess it's old news by now that Iliza Shlesinger won.
I'll admit, I was a little shocked when they booted Jeff Dye. He took third place. I thought for sure his model looks and his hilarious sets would have given him the win. I would have voted for him.
Pop culture vs. politics: It's going to get ugly.
Tonight is the finale of "Last Comic Standing."
I'm kind of confused as to why they let the final five comics perform last week and then forced America to choose a winner. We've barely seen full sets by these comics. But the top five (even the top eight) are really talented.
Sports + Fashion = Yiddish

After watching the rerun of last week's episode, I saw that I only missed another cocktail dress challenge. If PR was still on at 10 p.m., I'd be asleep before the whack ish outfits had a chance to saunter down the runway. Help! The show is flat-lining. Someone needs to administer style CPR. Stat.
Thankfully, Wednesday night's episode went in a different, if totally obvious, direction -- to Team USA town. Speed-skater Apolo Ohno told the crew to create an opening ceremonies outfit.
Have you seen MTV's Artist of the Week video with LL Cool J. They're hilarious. I love a musician who doesn't take himself too seriously.
My favorite pastime is riding the roller coasters at America's Amusement parks.
Hershey, Dorney, Six Flags Great Adventure, Cedar Point...oh how I love them all.
A few years ago, I discovered Six Flags America in Bowie, Md. It's a little more than an hour from my house and a change from the norm. And CHEAP. It's $25 for a ticket if you purchase online. I think a season pass is $50. I had off yesterday, so I went.

There is something suspicious surrounding the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight." While it's breaking box office records and getting rave reviews, those involved with the film are dropping like flies. Could the movie be cursed? Let's examine the evidence before jumping to any irrational conclusions.
Where have you been all my life?
I stayed in York this weekend. (Don't act like you're not surprised.) That's mostly because I took a mid-week jaunt to Yankee Stadium in The Bronx. I saw the Yankees crush the Orioles, paid $17 for two Miller Lites and, to use the words of my brother, paid my respects to baseball history at the house that Ruth built. I withstood heat from the sun and from my friends, who were convinced I had crossed enemy lines. I decided to hide out and get some much needed downtime Friday night.
Actor Morgan Freeman is in serious condition after being injured in a car accident in Mississippi and is currently in a hospital in Memphis Tennessee, according to Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Stringer.
Stay updated on the Academy Award-winner's condition by checking back here.

No, I didn't get shot in Camden, but it was pretty close. I saw The Killers at the Download Festival on Saturday. I had no idea The Killers had such a frat-boy fan base. They swarmed around the amphitheater and parking lot in their polo shirts and cargo shorts, spilling their plastic cups of beer on unsuspecting, sober concert-goers (for once, I left a concert beer-stain free). The day was filled with music, but my friends and I only went for Iggy Pop and The Stooges, and of course, The Killers.
For attractive eyes only.
Happy August. Kick the month off right with a rockin weekend. Click here, here or here for suggestions.
