No, I didn't get shot in Camden, but it was pretty close. I saw The Killers at the Download Festival on Saturday. I had no idea The Killers had such a frat-boy fan base. They swarmed around the amphitheater and parking lot in their polo shirts and cargo shorts, spilling their plastic cups of beer on unsuspecting, sober concert-goers (for once, I left a concert beer-stain free). The day was filled with music, but my friends and I only went for Iggy Pop and The Stooges, and of course, The Killers.
Iggy Pop is old, but that dude can rock. He jerked wildly to the music, inviting people from the pit up onto the stage.
The always-dapper Killers came out next, opening with "For Reasons Unknown," from the album Sam's Town. Brandon Flowers was, thankfully, sans-eyeliner and oh-so-dreamy. Even a group of frat boys were ogling him and passionately singing along (seriously). Flowers bounced around the prop-filled stage, singing all the band's hits. Their Joy Division cover "Shadowplay" was the highlight of the show for me. I was sad they didn't play "All the Pretty Faces," from the album Sawdust. Oh well....
They ended the show with "All These Things That I've Done." It was the first concert I've ever been to where the main band didn't come back for an encore. Apparently, my friend informed me the bands have to be done with their set before midnight at that venue. Lame!
Other than the anticlimactic end, getting lost in sketchy Camden and the obnoxious frat boys, The Killers were amazing.
