LaMotte's Restaurant and Bar in New Freedom is touted as having some of the best crab cakes in York County, but the rest of their menu is just as worthy of notice.
Friday night, Nate, my husband, and I went to LaMotte's for dinner. We were celebrating a few career achievements for both of us, so we were excited to have a memorable experience.
The menu at Lamotte's has so many interesting dishes, that it's really hard to choose. We started with the General Tso's Style Calamari ($7).
When Nate took the first bite, I knew it was going to be good. His eyes grew wide, and he savored the bite. I tried one of the fried green beans that were served with it first. The contents of the bowl were lightly fried and doused with just enough sauce. It wasn't too heavy or sweet. Just perfect. In fact, Nate is still talking about it. I think he wants me to attempt making it. I can't even imagine getting it to be that good.
We both ordered an entree. I chose the Grilled Tuna Jardiniere ($17) and Nate ordered Halibut Pomodoro ($18).
I had a beer, Nate had some bread and by the time we finished the appetizers and salads that came with the entrees, we were already full. But when the dishes came, I managed to finish my entire plate.
The tuna was situated on top of roasted sweet and regular potatoes. It was topped with roasted tomatoes, spinach, asparagus, roasted corn. When I ordered, I hesitated at the lemon cream sauce, but it was so lightly drizzled on top that it brought all the flavors together.
The halibut was served similarly, but with fire-roasted tomato sauce accented with olive oil, basil and Parmesan cheese. He, of course, could control himself and took a box home (which I ate later.)
It was so good, we talked about the meal for days. It cost us just less than $50 before tip. Not bad.
