Weekend roundup
Gold medal for fresh Olympic fashion

Thursday night, I kept it classy with martinis and jazz music provided by saxophonist Tim Warfield at White Rose Bar & Grill. I should have worn wing tips and a fedora.
Friday, I went back to the Jersey Shore. It wouldn't be August without a trip to Avalon. I arrived in time to catch some of the opening ceremonies of the 2008 summer Olympics, and event that made me feel anything but confident about my knowledge of world countries. Team USA looked dapper in Ralph Lauren-designed blazers and newsboy caps.
Cooler by a mile
Saturday, the sun was shining and the ocean was tepid, so I hit the beach hard. Later in the afternoon, I enjoyed a boat cruise and swim bayside, before heading back to the beach until dinner time. Maybe it was the salty air or the sunburn, but I felt like a kid again.
After watching some more Olympics and slathering on some much-needed aloe, I headed up to Ocean City, N.J. to walk the boards. After kicking some butt in bumper cars, I hit up the free fudge samples and Kohr Bros., of course. Unfortunately, I had to pass on the Mack and Mancos.
Sunday, I headed back down to the beach until storms blew in. The rest of my day was spent on the highway fighting the shore traffic to get back to York. Luckily, I got back in time to catch the women's gymnastic qualifiers.
In the rest of the world, NBC has seen a spike in ratings for their coverage of the Beijing games so far. Heck, I don't think I've had my TV on this much since Athens in 2004.
There was a lot of sad news for show biz. Comedian Bernie Mac passed away Saturday and singer Isaac Hayes passed away Sunday.
