Season five of "Project Runway" continued it's reign of fashion terror with this week's challenge: Create an avant garde look based on a sign from the zodiac.
Re-capper Erin McCracken was on Fair duty Wednsday covering the Seether/Breaking Benjamin show so I'm subbing with the review.
I'll get this out of the way, Joe won, although there will be no more immunity for the designers.
The episode's surprise twist: Designers who had been given the boot earlier in the season were paired with the remaining eight. There was plenty of drama and cattiness to be had, especially with the return of sad, injured Keith and his mini ponytail, who was paired with rightfully bitter Terri.
Keith complained a lot about how Terri wouldn't let him help, but really, who could blame her? Keith should've been kicked off long, long before his shoddy car design, and Terri, who is a talented designer, was just looking out for herself.
Which leads me to surprise twist No. 2: Two designers were kicked off this week. Why? Who knows? The show has been disappointing thus far this season with weak design and been-there-done-that challenges, maybe it was time to raise the stakes a little.
But what do the producers ... err... judges do when given the opportunity to rid themselves of two crappy designers? They kick off one crappy designer (Blayne --- way, way overdue) and one consistantly strong designer, Terri.
Why give Terri the boot when people like Kenley (who I actually liked until she took this defensive, obnoxious turn a couple episodes ago) or, I'm sorry Erin, Suede, whose third-person and blue faux-hawk are just coverups for his lack of real talent?
Why is Kenley allowed to stay after producing a visionless, themeless, bubble-armed, done-before outfit on a show that's supposed to showcase visionary, forward-thinking design?
Why? Because in squeezing in one last throw-away season on Bravo before heading over to Lifetime, "Project Runway" found itself with a pool of so-so designers. Rather then focus on great fashion, they focus on over-the-top characters and entertainment.
Sigh. Times like these make you miss Christian or even Jeffrey.
Season Six can't come soon enough.

Clearly, you and all the Suede haters out there are just jealous of his general awesomeness. But seriously, he's not top-three material. I thought Terri was, though. And, for the record, I miss Christian every day of my life.
Did you see that Christian just had a show at NY fashion week? I've forgotten where I watched the video already, but it was some good stuff.
I was surprised to see Terri go. She was one of my favorites... And Keith is sad. I was sad that I had to watch another episode with him in it.
