Weekend roundup

Rihanna makes rain look good.

After a week of writing up a storm about the York Fair Breaking Benjamin and ZZ Top concerts, I was looking forward to a chill weekend. (Excuse all the shameless plugs.)

With another dreary day on Friday, I got my wish. I grabbing some grilled cheese at Cobblestones, splashed around in some puddles and went to see the new Coen Brothers comedy "Burn After Reading."

Don't burn this blog after reading.

It was quite funny, but seemed to drag at times. Frances McDormand and John Malkovich gave great performances. Pretty boy package deal George Clooney and Brad Pitt were just good. Can we talk about J.K. Simmons, aka Juno's dad, for a minute? He appeared briefly as a CIA superior, but had the best lines. His deadpan delivery was hilarious. (He also has great supporting roles in "Spiderman" and "The Closer.")

Saturday, I met a refugee rocker at the Harp & Fiddle. (Read more in Thursday's Popeye. I must have also developed shameless plug syndrome sometime this weekend.) Later, I headed out to WaterWay to enjoy the warm night and drinks on the deck. The full moon was shining off the Codorous and the random retro music took me back to my middle school days.

As I traipsed back home down Philadelphia Street, I saw some familiar faces at the White Rose and stopped in to hang out for a while. I split my time between sitting at the table outside and watching some flippin' sweet music videos inside. (I hadn't seen Rihanna's "Umbrella" video in months. I hadn't heard the song in hours. It was almost brand new again.)

Oh la la! Lifetime?

Sunday, the day that I typically get my life in order, was spent doing just that. I also discover that Lifetime made a movie about the life and times of (my icon) Coco Chanel. I also discovered that I can watch that channel more than five minutes. The movie was actually pretty sweet and very Parisian. It was a nice suprise at the end of the weekend.
