Weekend roundup

M.I.A. makes better music than Miley.

No double entry necessary this time, despite the long weekend.
I ate dinner at the new downtown restaurant MB & Company Thursday night. I put on my fancy pants and fliffed. (I used that phrase way too much when I started the roundups, so I retired it temporarily. But I missed it a little. Consider it back in action now.) It was a little strange to dine at a place where I didn't have to order at a counter, but I managed to keep it classy...at least for one night.

Friday, the monsoonish weather was the perfect excuse to stay in. I was finally able to crack open the 700-plus-page September issue of Vogue that was too big for my mailbox. I drifted off to sleep with visions of my fantasty fall wardrobe dancing in my head.

Saturday, I headed back East. My mom talked me into accompanying her on a trip to Babies "R" Us to buy an outfit for my cousin's infant son. I thought I had stepped foot onto another planet. All the clothes were really tiny. I was initially alarmed, but the cute shoes comforted me.

I came. I golfed. I conquered.

Later that evening, the munchkin theme continued with a game of mini golf with three friends. Despite landing one ball in the river and another on the deck of a fake house, I tied for first place. I even got a hole in one. (I celebrated with an ice cream cone, but secretly wanted to take a picture. It would have lasted longer.)

Later, we headed to a bar and spent a majority of the time catching up on the college football scores. My friend and I ventured up to the DJ to try and relieve the music situation with M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes." I didn't work. He played a Miley Cyrus song, so we peaced out. The night with some stargazing.

Sunday was the annual McCracken Labor Day picnic. A washers tournament was arranged complete with a winners and losers bracket. At the end of the night, my dad made a fire and everyone sat around reminiscing. Monday, I headed back to York, feeling great despite a mild sunburn and stuffed tummy from excessive dirt dessert consumption.
