Death Cab plays Radio City
This weekend was epic, but I'll try to squeeze it all into one entry.
Friday, I had my heart set on seeing "Route 30," and was bummed when I got to the Strand and heard it was sold out. Instead, I caught the end of Blind Joe Death's set at the White Rose. (I found out later that "Route 30" is back in York by popular demand Nov. 1 and 2. Score!)
Saturday, I headed back East and caught up with this season of "Entourage" thanks to my parents' On Demand. Then, I headed out to watch the Phillies game with some friends. After watching the Brewers win, all we could think to do was head out to a bar to numb the pain.
Sunday, my family took the boat out for its final spin of the season on the Schuylkill River. It was a beautiful fall day, and it felt good to be out in the fresh air and sunshine. It felt even better to hear that the Phillies are headed to the National League championships.
I wanted to be a part of it.

Sunday night, I headed to New York City with my compatriot for a "Nick and Norah"-esque whirlwind tour of the city (minus that iky romantic ish.)
Monday morning, I woke up in the city that doesn't sleep and headed out to see the sights. We took the subway to Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood and had a Spanish brunch. Then, we walked around the peaceful Prospect Park. From there, we took the pedestrian path across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. The view of the city was awesome and I even caught a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty.
Spotted
While checking out some trendy boutiques in the East Village, we caught a glimpse of the cast of "Law & Order: SVU." I got to see Ice-T and Christopher Meloni up close and personal. The celebrity sightings kept coming when we spotted Sarah Silverman talking to a pal on Second Avenue. We got close enough to confirm it was her before she rode off into the crowd on her tricked-out bike.
Having worked up an appetite from the walking and such, we nestled into a cozy little Italian place where the pasta and cheese cake were to die for and the music left a little to be desired. (At one, point Coolio was playing.)
If I could open my arms and span the length of the isle of Manhattan...
Thankfully, the music situation improved when we headed to Radio City Music Hall to see Death Cab for Cutie perform to a packed house. The crowd wasn't as screamy or steamy as the one in June. But I was amped that the set list included "Summer Skin," "We Looked Like Giants" and "Technicolor Girls," which the band has only played one other time in eight years.
Needless to say, it was a great show, a great weekend and I still need to catch up on my sleep.
