Come back!
Thursday, I headed to the White Rose Bar & Grill with some friends to celebrate an unidentified event that required dinner and drinks.
I was bummed to learn that Tim Warfield will no longer be playing his monthly gigs there. (It was technically my party. I didn't cry, but I wanted to.)
The bartender helped ease the pain by making me a special "experiment." It was fruity, delicious and, therefore, deadly. I only survived a few sips.
By early Friday morning, I was feeling fine. Then, I read this little piece of news about the White Rose. Is nothing sacred?
Rouke vs. Penn: Oscar smackdown
Friday, I decided to take it easy and finally got around to seeing "The Wrestler." My co-workers saw it and both wrote rave reviews. After seeing "Milk" a few weeks ago, I had to see if Mickey Rourke would really give Sean Penn a run for his money for the Academy Award for best actor. Rourke was spectacular, but the Oscar race is still too close to call.
Going bohemian in Baltimore
Saturday, I headed to Baltimore to celebrate spring. It might have been a bit early, but the break in the weather was cause to celebrate. I was introduced to new friends and new bars at Fell's Point. Saturday night in Canton, I was introduced to Natty Boh. I also learned that a one too many rounds of flip cup, birthday cake and kitchen floors aren't a good combination. Sunday, I learned what it takes to remove sharpie from someone's face, what wearing a T-shirt feels like in February and how not to spell wharf. All-in-all it was a very educational experience.
After cruising through a sweet record store, a pretzel stand and a few vintage clothing stores (Where else can one expect to find a pillbox hat these days?) it was time to head back to York. Sunday night, I snuggled on my couch with some Chinese food and the Grammys. I laughed, cried, rolled my eyes, ranted and raved. Overall, I was amused and, apparently, so were a lot of other people. I would like to give a shoutout to YDR's resident fashionista, Michelle, who broke down the fashions.
