Re-live summer of '69

They were the best days of Bryan Adam's life, and it was full of peace peace_sign_rainbow_300.gifsigns, tie-dye t-shirts and rock music.

Forty years later, downtown Las Vegas plans to trigger those memories, in hippy style, with its Fremont Street Experience.

Visitors this summer can attend a free rock concert with classic bands, such as the Guess Who, Jefferson Starship, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Three Dog Night, the 5th Dimension and the Grass Roots.

Or, they can check out colorful buses (one serving as a stage) painted by John Van Hamersveld, the guy responsible for the Beatles' 1967 "Magical Mystery Tour" album cover.

Even the casinos are making special plans to join in on the theme.

Maybe Vegas drew its inspiration from this recent American Choppers Woodstock bike?

I'm sure it couldn't be that they want to draw in more tourists (shifty eyes). At least, I'd like to think, they're trying to spread some peace and love. Sha la lalalala, live for today.

I learned a lot during the summer of 69. I was 17 and an American in France. Though I'd become used to being an "ugly American," once we landed on the moon, suddenly total strangers began to congratulate me and my obviously American friends on the Apollo trip. This helped rebuild my pride and American spirit. We experienced Woodstock from "across the pond," too. It'll be nice to see those bands again...
