Have no fear. There is nary a smudge of guy liner or tight pant to be found on the the Avett Brothers , despite the title of their 2007 album, "Emotionalism."
After having this song stuck in my head for a week, I stopped by the North Carolina band's Web site in search of more tasty tunage.
While I didn't find "I and Love and You" anywhere (this song is on an album by the same name, scheduled to drop in August), I did find a ton of other songs that showed the band isn't just a one random lovely song wonder.
The group has seven albums and four EPs filled with folky-rock songs that are intermittently foot-stomp heavy and walk-on-a-star-filled-summer-night sweet.
"Emotionalism" channels "Love Me Do" Beatles and bluegrass with elements of punk rock. They sound at once old-fashioned and totally fresh.
I challenge you not to bop your head during "Paranoia in B Major" and "Will You Return" or not to suffer a slight broken heart when the boys croon "When you run, make sure you run to something and not away from cause, lies don't need an airplane to chase you anywhere" on "The Weight of Lies."
OK, so maybe things get a little sappy on "Emotionalism." But that's no surprise coming from me.
