‘Front Porch to Front Lines’ opens Tuesday at Heritage Trust

The York County Heritage Trust’s new exhibit honors contributions of York Countians who served their nation during World War I through the Vietnam War with its new exhibit “Front Porch to Front Lines: York County Goes to War.” It opens Tuesday, June 14, in the Historical Society Museum, 250 E. Market St., York. Read all about it.
Here is a list of opening day events:
Opening day
10 a.m. — Opening Ceremony in Meeting Hall; Exhibit Opens in Glatfelter Gallery
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Military vehicle displays in the parking lot behind the museum
1 to 4 p.m. — Veteran Viewpoints in Glatfelter Gallery — On the third Saturday of the month veterans and individuals who grew up during the four conflicts will share stories and memories. Those who would like to participate can contact 848-1587, ext. 302.
6 to 7:30 p.m. — Pennsylvania Humanities Council Commonweath Speaker Dr. Phil Atteberry, presents “The Music of World War II”
8 to 9:30 p.m. — Spring Garden Dance Band

Support Our American Recruits (SOAR) military care package donation collection in Founders Hall — Donations of care package materials will be accepted to be mailed abroad on July 4.
Red Shirt Fridays — The Trust invites visitors, volunteers, staff and the community to wear a red shirt on Fridays to support the contributions and sacrifices of our nation’s military men and women.
Military movie series at the Capitol Theatre
Dec. 2 to 4 — “Tora! Tora! Tora!”
March 16 to 18, 2012 — “Pork Chop Hill”
May 18 to 20, 2012 — “All Quiet on the Western Front”
July 6, 2012 — “Born on the Fourth of July”
Exhibit lecture series
Sept. 17 — Join Dr. Marilynn Larew of Towson University and Vietnam Veteran
Stan Brenner for a discussion about the history, culture and politics of Vietnam.
Nov. 19 — Join Richard Hoff as he displays graphite pencil drawings that feature life in
America during the WWII era.
Winter 2012 — World War II era veterans and civilians will speak. Topics include Stewartstown, Four Chaplains and the York Plan.
Spring 2012 — The East Coast Chapter of the Western Front Association welcomes
enthusiasts and historians interested in commemoration of the Great War, 1914-1918.
Summer 2012– Korean War discussion
