Kick off holidays with pre- and post-Thanksgiving events in York area

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the weekend after Turkey Day provide some of the biggest party days of the year. There is plenty of a time for friends and family to get together somewhere other than the dinner table. Check out some local places to hang out tonight and this weekend:

Thanksgiving Eve:
— Head to Date Night and Wine Wednesday and stick around for the Groove Jones Jr. Thanksgiving Eve event Wednesday at Victor’s Italian Restaurant, Victor’s Italian Restaurant, 550 Ogontz St., Spring Garden Township.
— Party at the WTPA-FM Birthday Bash with rockers Kix Wednesday at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center, Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 and $40 for VIP. Read an interview with Kix.
— The King of Hill is back at Colony Park Lanes North, 1900 Pennsylvania Ave., York. Check in starts at 9 p.m. Wednesday. The bowling tournament starts at 10:30 p.m. There is a limit of 128 entries. The top 16 will win cash as will the top 3 in the losers’ bracket. Cost is $40, and $13 for the side pot.
— Celebrate at the Thanksgiving Eve Dance Party 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Chameleon Club, 223 N. Water St., Lancaster. DJ Image will spin tunes. There is no cover for the 21-and-older event.
— See America’s premier Pink Floyd tribute band The Machine 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sunoco Performance Theater at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, 222 Market St., Harrisburg. Tickets are $29 and $35.
— Younger Me hosts a CD release party featuring Cold Fronts Wednesday at The Depot, 360 W. Cottage Place, York. Doors open at 8 p.m. Music starts at 9 p.m. Cover is $5 for the 21-and-older event.

Post-Thanksgiving events:
— The CapLive Hoots & Hellmouth show has become a November tradition. See the Philly band with the Vinegar Creek Constituency 8 p.m. Friday at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St., York. Tickets are $14.
— Get in the mood for winter during two skiing video premieres 7 p.m. Friday in Fireside Pub and Grill at Mountain Roundtop Resort, 925 Roundtop Road, Warrington Township. Visitors can view “2112” and “Sunny.” The event is free.
Tailgaters Grill and Drafthouse, 204 St. Charles Way, York Township, hosts a Thanksgiving Eve Party, but on Friday, it brings back Dueling Pianos by popular demand. The music starts at 8 p.m. Cover is $5.
Nate Myers & The Aces perform Friday at The Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Company, 50 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg. Doors are 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. There’s no cover.
— Rapper Juelz Santa will be in York for the Thanksgiving Weekend Bash. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show starts at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St., York. DJs Knowledge and Assassin will spin. Other acts include B.R.E.A.T.H.E. TV, Lady Shakespeare and Shann B. Tickets are $30. ID is required for entry to the 21-and-older event.
— More Friday and Saturday events.
