End of the World parties, events slated for Dec. 21 in York area

The now-defunct R.E.M. sang it best: It’s the end of world as we know, but I feel fine…since there are plenty of chances to party away our last hours on Earth. OK, even though scientists debunked the Mayan 2012 legends it’s still a good excuse for area bars to host events, right?

End of the World Party
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: John Rudy Park Observatory in East Manchester Township
What: Join the York County Astronomical Society to celebrate the Winter Solstice and take a tour of the night sky.

End of the World musical celebration
When: 9 p.m. Friday
Where: Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center’s Stage on Herr, 268 Herr St., Harrisburg
What: Central Pennsylvania pop-rock outfit Red Sea Radio will perform. The group recently released its EP “Breaking My Heart.”

When: 8:30 p.m. Friday
Where: The Depot, 360 W. Cottage Place, York
What: The Substance will perform along with Cheezy & The Crackers.

Where: Moon Dancer Winery, 1282 Klines Run Road, Lower Windsor Township
What: DJ Franny will be on hand with karaoke. There will be light fare and a bomb shelter filled with wine — just in case.
