Fairfield Lavender Festival goes ‘lite’ this year

Sarah Fleischman for FlipSide — After 11 successful years, Willow Pond Farm held its last three-day Pennsylvania Lavender Festival in 2012. But the bittersweet end marks a new beginning for local lavender-lovers. The Fairfield farm kicked off its new “lite” version of the festival June 8 with treats, talks and tours of its herb gardens.

Guests were able to try six kinds of lavender-flavored ice cream, lavender-flavored beverages, purchase lavender and other herbs grown on the farm, and roam the lavender fields during the first-ever Pennsylvania Lavender Festival “Lite.” The event takes place over the course of two weekends and locals can return to the farm June 15 for the second and final day of the festival.
