Hello #ILoveYorkCity and all local entertainment junkies!!!
I’ve got some exciting news to share: FlipSide is flipping, which means there are lots of exciting changes headed your way.
The first change is me. My name is Ashley May and I am your new FlipSide Entertainment Editor.
You might recognize me from my past Cheap Eats columns, my byline on event previews or FlipSide Weekend articles in FlipSide, fashion spreads in Smart Magazine or on stories in the York Daily Record/Sunday News.
I was previously a multiplatform journalist in the features department, which means I did a little bit of everything for York Daily Record publications — photos, articles, live-Tweeting, videos and more.
I’ve been with the company for almost two years but I’ve lived in York County my entire life (minus a few years that I went to Ithaca College in upstate New York, traveled the world with Semester at Sea and participated in some writing and photography programs in Rome, London and Scotland).
You should probably know that I’m pretty young for an editor — I turn 24 in May. I’m the youngest manager on staff. With that being said, I’d like to think that I’m plugged into a younger entertainment scene. And, that will be reflected in our publication.
A few other facts about me: I graduated from Susquehannock High School in 2008. I graduated from Ithaca College with a journalism major and two minors: photography and religious studies. Sometimes, I shoot photos for fun: amaystudios.com. I’m getting married in July. I would rather go out than stay in any night of the week. I love farm-to-table eateries, going shopping and hearing a new band in concert for the first time.
As FlipSide editor, I’ve got some great ideas to make FlipSide more current and cool.
Let’s get to know each other: Come say hi this First Friday. I’ll be a part of the Outrageous Holiday Sweater event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. outside Arthur & Daughters, 49 N. Beaver St. Wear a crazy sweater and I’ll take your photo! If your sweater is my favorite of the night, you will be awarded a basket filled with items from North Beaver Street stores. Check back on the FlipSide Facebook page next week to see photos from the event. Click here for more on what’s happening downtown.
For those planning events, running entertainment venues or performing in them, shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’d love to get to know you and maybe grab a coffee sometime. My direct office line is 717-771-2053 if talking on the phone is more of your jam.
Hope to talk to you soon!
