Are Netflix and I through?

| | Comments (1)

Netflix helped me survive single life without cable.
The three-movies-at-a-time package for $18.01 a month came in handy when nothing good was on channel 8, the only almost-clear channel I got with rabbit ears.
I watched five straight episodes of HBO's "The Wire" and got completely caught up on "Gray's Anatomy."

But then, I got married and along with a husband, I got DirectTV and DVR. And Netflix wasn't a necessity anymore.

The Works would work for York

| | Comments (0)

For a few years now, my family and I have been celebrating special occasions at The Works in Wyomissing, just outside of Reading. According to Google Maps, it's about an hour drive from York or 53 miles.works.jpg

I describe it as a Chuck E. Cheese for adults or similar to Dave & Buster's if you've ever been to one of those.

'When We Left Earth'

I'm hooked on the Discovery Channel's six-part documentary "When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions".

Vote for your favorite chain

Parents magazine did a survey to find the best family-friendly chain. Their research was based on criteria such as the availability of crayons and how well the location accommodates children with food allergies.
Read on to find out who they chose.

Avoid Salmonella with homegrown

| | Comments (0)

If the grocery store prices on produce aren't enough to drive you to farmer's markets and roadside stands, maybe the FDA's warning about Salmonella will.

Burger King, Wawa, Chili's, McDonald's and White Rose Bar & Grill are just a few places I've seen take tomatoes off the menu.

Restaurant scoop

| | Comments (0)

I'm always on the look out for new restaurants and often times, I see old ones closing.

Wing Zone in Gabriel Brother's Plaza has a sign on the door that the franchise location is for sale.

Pepper's American Grill, 54 Carlisle Ave., York is now Big Momma Home Cooking, 843-0609.

Healthy Deli Cafe, 9 W. Philadelphia St., York, closed and a sign advertises that 9 West Cafe is opening in its place. The number is 718-3117.

Don't stop reading, there is more.....

Mmmmm, McCleary's

| | Comments (0)

My dear friend Kristy from my first newspaper job lives in Lancaster. We try to get together for dinner regularly, but we always end up meeting near the York Galleria or Park City Center because it's the easiest landmark along Route 30. But in an attempt to meet in the middle, I stumbled across McCleary's Irish Pub in Marietta, Lancaster County. It's about a 30 minutes from the office in West Manchester Township. It's tucked along the river in the quaint little historic river town.

Local flavor and comedy

I had a date Saturday night. My husband and I went to Doc Holliday's in Fairview Township for dinner and enjoyed a show at Harrisburg Comedy Zone after.
