'1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die'

Albeit a bit morbid, this eclectic list is sure to expand your musical horizons.

The book-turned-Web site includes everything from ABBA to AC/DC. You can read the blog and buy albums.

You already know my beef with lists and who has the authority to to tell me what to listen to, watch and download. But, despite the lack of gangsta rap, this one seems legit.

I better get crackin' before I bite the dust.

Say in ain't so, Indy

Yeah, I'm behind the curve as new movies go, but I just saw the lastest Indiana Jones flick the other night.
And I will never get the two hours of my life back -- ever.

The whip doesn't crack as loudly as it used to and his Fedora seems a bit worn. While the quips were still funny, the special effects were so 2003. I thought I'd be OK with the star-studded cast of Cate Blanchett, Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf. WRONG. Anyone else see bother to see the movie? Or have any thoughts?

At 8 p.m. Monday, the world was introduced to Jason Mesnick, 32, the most eligible man in America according to ABC's "The Bachelor."

The catch? He's the father of a 3-year-old son. Read a recap of the episode here. Read a blog about the show here.

Holler at all the single parents out there. Do you agree with Mesnick going on the show? Is it harder to date when kids are involved? Click here to comment.

Minty Fresh masterpiece

Jay-Z + Radiohead = Jaydiohead

There was just one word that came to mind when I listened to ten tracks of Hova rapping over Radiohead beats. Genius. New York City beatmaker DJ Minty Fresh Beats is the mastermind behind this mashup.

In 2004, Danger Mouse took Jay-Z's lyrics and paired them with the Beatles' "White Album" to make the "Grey Album." Who should Hova rap with next?
My weekend technically started Wednesday night, so this roundup includes New Year's Eve. This year, I partied like it was 2009. Seriously, when Prince's song came on, I yelled "2009" each time he said "1999."

I've been looking back so much recently that I should install a rear-view mirror on this blog. But it's hard to do much else once late December rolls around. Click here to read the YDR's three lines project, which summarizes the top stories of the year.

Still trying to make last-minute New Year's plans? Click here for ideas. If you're just chilling on New Year's, take a 2008 pop culture quiz, find out what the questions of the year were or watch Dick Clark.
The Veronicas: So hot right now

This Australian sister act (23-year-old twins Lisa and Jessica Origliasso) has a lot of attitude, and I can't get their catchy anthem "Untouched" out of my head. They might just break out in 2009. It would be cooler if the pair did more than stand at the mic wearing heavy eyeliner (i.e. played instruments), but I think this is the perfect pre-New Year's video. Enjoy.

What's with all the lists?

VH1 tried to pick the "100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs." The two-hour spectacular, which airs at 9 Tuesday night, will no doubt feature video clips and commentary from pop culture icons. I always wonder who has the authority to rank the songs. Some artist always ends up getting snubbed.

It's not just Best of 2008 lists. It seems like more networks, magazines and Web sites are using the list method to capture readers/viewers. Can anyone say overkill? Who really cares what the top 25 "I did it for the money" films are? The only lists that matter to me are the lists of Grammy, Emmy and Academy Award winners. Word.

I headed back East Friday and found my parents' house packed with people and food. Saturday and Sunday were spent visiting with relatives and eating as well.
