I've talked about my use of soy before and how much tofu has pleasantly surprised me, but now I think I've found my true love food substitute.
Coconut.
I can not describe to you the celebration I did in the aisle at Giant when I found they carry coconut milk. This is one food that I looooove. So I'm excited at what I can do for Ava.
The brand is So Delicious, made by Turtle Mountain. I had already tried their line of yogurts and ice cream, and let me tell you, much easier to handle then soy. In my opinion anyway.
So I bought the milk and went home to make some tapioca pudding. The pudding hasn't quite set up the way I would like, but it's still darn good. The next day at work I went searching for Turtle Mountains' Web site and found one of the most awesomest food allergy friendly sites on the interweb: SoDeliciousDairyFree.com.
It's so easy to navigate. They clearly list all their products, and when you click on one, all the nutrition label information comes up. Plus, you get links to recipes, reviews and coupons.
But really, the best part is the allergen information they give. They talk about how their suppliers give them letters guaranteeing the allergen content of ingredients, how their production takes places, what lines are used, how the equipment is cleaned, etc.
There is even a separate section on the challenges of using chocolate coatings for their desserts.

If you like yogurt, then you should definitely check out their products. The one place I know for certain carries their products is the Giant in West Manchester.
