Add a peanut allergy to the list

no peanut.jpgNot the news I was expecting to hear from the allergist this morning.

I go to listen to the message after missing the phone call. And they don't mince words:

"She's highly reactive to peanuts."

WTF? Where did this come from? Peanuts were never on the radar before. We avoided them because of her other allergies, but she never tested positive.

The results of the blood test were this, and there was some good news mixed in there:

  1. Peanuts: High

  2. Milk: High

  3. Egg: Getting lower

  4. Wheat: Getting lower

  5. Beef: Getting lower

The interesting thing is this: We have been giving her beef and wheat for awhile now. She hasn't had any reactions - no tummy aches or anything like that. Her eczema hasn't flared up.

We've given her a few items with one baked egg in them. Again - no problems.

All three of those are the ones that have lowered.

Beef, the allergist said, went down 75%. And it was fairly low to begin with.

But milk -- which she hasn't had since she was one -- and peanuts -- which she never had -- are highly reactive.

To me, that's just too much evidence that I'm on the right path by not avoiding everything. I buy products with the warning, "May have been produce on equipment shared with peanuts, etc." and Ava has never had a reaction. Never.

So, like I told my husband earlier when he bemoaned the peanut addition, nothing is really going to change. We are just going to do what we are doing. It's worked so far, right?
