So we are back and finally settled in from a much-needed vacation in Virginia Beach.
The weather was great, the beach and ocean awesome (except for the one day of grasshoppers) and the indoor and outdoor pools (with poolside bar!) were most relaxing.
I took all of Ava's food down with us. Some I even prepared ahead of time (rice, noodles, mashed taters, etc.) Our room didn't have a full kitchen, but I took down the griddle and the toaster, and we were set.
We didn't have too many issues. The french fries from the poolside bar were OK for her to eat, so she didn't have to be left out of all our eating out.
She did have one hive breakout, though.
My parents came down for a few days, and their first night in VA, we went out to eat. I had forgotten to bring along my Clorox wipes, and Ava broke out on her face and arms, presumably from touching the seat and table.
I think we were more upset about it than her, and once we got back to the room, she was fine and ready for the pool.
The next night, we went to our favorite all-you-can-eat-place, Captain George's, and this time I was prepared. I had Ava's food, of course, plus I wiped down the seat and table before she sat down. And all was well. (The hushpuppies there are fab-u-lous!)
Our hotel even had an all-you-can-eat breakfast that Ava ate from. I would make her pancakes or toast in the room, then she could have bacon and fruit. Not one breakout.
My only other concern was Ava's skin and the sun. She has sensitive skin, and I was worried about her burning easily. But with a little help from the SPF 70, that area was not an issue.
So despite the headache of packing all her stuff, plus nebulizer and medicines, I felt better having everything on hand. I do think I went overboard on the amount of food needed, but better safe than sorry, right?
Does anyone have any vacation tips to share?

I just stumbled across your post. Thanks for sharing. It is just good to hear of other people facing the same situations and making it work.
Thanks for the comment Roseann! Who in your family has food allergies?
