Feb. 19 event to help build South Mountain's sense of place

| | Comments (0)

I've heard here and there lately about this South Mountain region that the state and conservation groups have been promoting. Although, I must say, growing up in central Pennsylvania, I still really didn't have much a clue about where it was.

Well, apparently awareness is one of the first steps on the agenda for the South Mountain Partnership , alternatively known as the South Mountain Conservation Landscape Initiative.

The South Mountain region contains parts of northwestern York County, including Dillsburg, as well as parts of Adams, Cumberland and Franklin counties. (Note: The map might take some time to load.)

Toward the awareness end, the first South Mountain Summit, scheduled for Feb. 19, is set to cover how to give the area a sense of place and build upon it economically.

The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Penn Township Fire Hall in Newville, Cumberland County. Registration is required at cost is $15. Community leaders are invited from across the region to have a say in how the initiatives move forward.
