pmkscoot.jpgThe scooter, built by an industrial design student in the Netherlands, has an electric motor powered by a (Li-)ion battery. If the Fhybrid is ever put into production, the idea is to charge the battery with a fuel-cell system, which would derive its energy from a tank of hydrogen.

Rabbittransit is expanding the use of biodiesel to its entire fleet.

Following the Codorus Creek north out of York and ending at John Rudy County Park, the 5.5-mile Northern Extension of the Heritage Rail Trail County Park connects 42 miles of existing rail trail that begins in Ashland, Maryland and ends in York.

In early 2008, Diamler-Chrysler will begin selling its Smart car Fortwo, already for sale in Europe, in the United States. The car is currently a sales success in Canada outselling the Mini and Beetle. Viewers of "The Da Vinci Code" will recall it swerving down a Paris sidewalk.

The York Railways car #163 mentioned in my previous post was a trolley, a summer home and then a trolley again. Doris McClane sent in a picture of the trolley when it was enclosed as a summer home on the Little Conewago Creek in East Manchester Township.

In theory, if an electric trolley system still existed in York County, powered by nuclear or hydroelectric, there could be a mass transportation system in place today that is both emission-free and independent of foreign oil.PMK3TROLLEY.jpg

Sales of truck-based SUVs have been declining across the industry for four years in a row, but until recently pickups were relatively immune from the phenomenon, Ford said. However, pickup buyers now appear to be delaying purchases because of pressure from high fuel costs, said Al Giombetti, president of marketing and sales for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury.
