VW promises an affordable fuel cell

| | Comments (1)

VW says that they have a breakthrough in fuel cell technology. Up until now the cell costs at least as much as the whole car.

VW claims that it cost of the cell is the result of cooling needs. Current fuel cells need to run at a specific temperature 176 degrees F, , so they need an expensive cooling system. VW claims that they have built a fuel cell that can run at 248 degrees F and tolerate 320 degrees F. VW expects to have the first prototypes in 2010 and full production in 2020.
