Green highlights from the Harrisburg auto show

pmkCHEVY.jpg General Motors has a prototype of their Sequel fuel cell car at the Pennsylvania Auto and Boat Show in Harrisburg. You can't see any of the guts, but they give a basic description and the specifications are interesting.

Acceleration – 0-60 mph in under 10 seconds.
Top Speed – 90 mph
Operating range – 300 miles
Lithium Ion 65 kW battery pack
Front Electric Motor – 60 kW
Rear Electric Wheel Hub Motors Power – 2 times 25kw
Total Traction Power – 110kW

And the only thing that means anything to us fossil fuel mortals...
Total Torque at the Wheels – 2506 lb.-ft
Electric motors are wonderful devices for off the line torque. Just ask your electric hand drill.

As the specs suggest, the vehicle is all-wheel-drive and power is provided by a hydrogen fuel-cell and a bank of lithium-ion batteries. It was introduced during the the 2005 Detroit Auto Show.

Mercedes-Bends is prominently featuring their new Bluetec clean burning diesel technology in some very expensive metal. This technology is to be shared by Volkswagen and DiamlerChrysler.
A rep from Volkswagen that didn't know they were getting Bluetec diesel although it was displayed at the Washington D.C. show.
