Toyota rolls out the red carpet for Prius buyers

| | Comments (0)

When I purchased a hybrid in December 2004, I steered away from the Toyota Prius for one simple reason. I hate demand hype.

Waiting lists, dealer demands, price premiums – Ug!

Starting this month for the first time ever nationally, Prius buyers can get 0 percent financing for two years or lease payments as low as $219 a month, Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman Bill Kwong said. Expect to see advertising to appear this Spring. (www.lsj.com)

A few key factors have converged:
--Gas prices have declined
--The tax credit for buying a Toyota hybrid is declining
--The production of the Prius has increased

It’s all about supply and demand.

In December 2004 gas prices had not yet spiked, when I purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid, the model wasn’t as popular as a Prius, Honda financing was 2.5 percent and I received a healthy tax incentive.

And then the price of gas began to steadily rise.

Buy low and smile when everyone else is waiting in a line paying a premium.
