The average American motorist is driving substantially fewer miles for the first time in 26 years because of high gas prices and demographic shifts, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal highway data.

The average American may be driving less, but the demand for oil in America is actually increasing and thus the price.
Next time you're at a stop light, look at how many SUVs are surrounding you and you'll see where the high demand is coming from.
They too will die out, as consumers grow weary of spending $120 to fill a tank that gets 300 miles down the road.
