Does the economy have you down? Go out and dance !

Brett Herbert and his girlfriend Ashley Kopp learned those and other moves in the first class of a beginner's dance course at the Jewish Community Center in York Township Sunday.

Herbert, 24, of Stewartstown, had given Kopp, 24, of Shiloh, the dance lessons as a Valentine's Day gift.

The couple took the class with Herbert's parents Bill and Susan Herbert of Stewartstown, his brother Patrick Herbert, 27, of Fawn Grove and Patrick Herbert's fiancee Holly Myers, 27, of Fawn Grove.

The Herberts enrolled in the dance class so they'll be prepared to dance at Patrick's and Holly's wedding reception in May, Susan Herbert said.

She and her husband took a dance class about three years ago, she said, and added that they had fun and wanted their sons to also learn to dance.

It's much more fun to dance than sit and watch others dance, said dance instructor Vera Kywa. She rented space at the JCC to teach the Herberts and about 10 other couples -- who ranged in age from early 20s to senior citizens -- basic dance moves often seen at events including wedding receptions, cruises and holiday parties.

Dancing is a great way to socialize and meet new people, she said.

Kywa -- a dance teacher for more than 25 years -- showed the group how to do the Hustle, swing, cha-cha-cha, Foxtrot and more.

"Anybody can learn how to dance," she said. "When we heamusic, our body just wants to move.

"You don't have to be perfect," Kywa said. "You just have to be willing."
