VIDEO Shenberger's first sunday after fire

It was 14 years ago that Daryl Miller met Amy Jo, the woman who would become his wife, at Shenberger's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Less than a week ago, he was standing inside the building as fire raged around him. He and a few other firefighters moved as they battled the blaze, and the floor they had just been standing on collapsed.

On Sunday, Miller said he believes a higher power kept them safe.

The congregation of the Chanceford Township church came together Sunday for its first service since the fire. They gathered in New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Company's social hall, sitting on metal folding chairs.

The former building held meaning for many of the people who met there weekly, the Rev. Patricia Bollinger said during her sermon. But it was only a building, and it can -- and will -- be rebuilt, she said.

"Many things happened in that building. Many people's lives had changed in that building," Bollinger said.
