Droid Tips & Tricks: Auto-focus bug fix (clean the lens) and macro tips

| | Comments (0)

pmkautofocus.jpgThere have been many threads over the past week that the Motorola Droid has a bug in the auto-focus system that doesn't allow it to focus.

The scenario is that the red focus bars stay red and never turn green resulting in a blurry photo.

I haven't noted any issues using the phone camera extensively over for the past two weeks, although I take very good care of the lens.

There were reports that Verizon had pushed a secret patch or that a date was wrong in the programming and the bug would appear every 24.5 days. People who were reporting the issue found it suddenly fixed.

The Washington Post reports today that the bug fix is to clean the lens.

Phone camera lenses are notorious for collecting dirt. Care will be need to be taken with this phone to keep this lens face in good repair.

There is also a Body Glove Rubber Snap On Cover now available for the Droid with a peep hole for the camera which will help keep the lens free from damage.

Macro will give you better macro shots than Auto and Infinity is good if you are shooting things you know are very far away.

Zoom in those 5 megapixels a hair in the macro mode and get a really tight macro shot filling the frame with a sharp two inches of subject area. It will allow you to get closer.

Most applications like Facebook and MMS, shave down the size of the photo anyway so you loose nothing. The same goes for pixel zooming with normal photos, the default way to zoom on the Droid other than walking closer.

The high megapixel count on a smart phone is more about the flexibility to manipulate the raw image by zooming and cropping in the phone than it is to make large photos.
