MiKandi touted as "The World's First Mobile Adult App Store " became available on the Android (gray) market.
It's an interesting first test of gate keeping by Google and Verizon.
Since Android is an open platform, it is possible to download apps not necessarily offered in the built in Android app store.
The open process takes the platform, wireless carrier and all parties out of the approval process and puts the decision of using an app in the hands of the consumer.
In order to download a third-party app, you have to find the site on your mobile browser. The app is then downloaded much the way you download a program on a desktop computer.
I read a story, did a Google search for the site on my Droid's browser and clicked the download.
You are given a warning that you are downloading outside the Android Market and then can proceed with your download after checking off on the option.
I went through the process short of a full install of the downloaded app.
The iPhone community has noticed:
While Apple is quite clear (or not so clear) on why some apps are accepted and rejected the growing Android Market (15,000 apps) has yet to give us clues as to what is acceptable to the open source platform.
The new app from MiKandi, is directly geared towards the porn industry. While it was personally never seen, there were rumors that a porn app had briefly made its way into the iPhone App Store. iphonestalk.com

It will be interesting to watch Apple's evolution if the Android Market grows faster than the iPhone app market with Apple's current long and torturous approval process.
