Scooner200.jpgA sail boat brings a new challenge for wide angle photography.

The Motorola Droid X panoramic mode is the perfect tool for documenting a wide scene while trapped in the middle of it.

Photo at left spans all the way from the rope on deck below me, through the captain, to a self-portrait of myself sitting on the other side of the boat.

I have used the vertical panoramic mode panning from the bottom to the top

The panoramic mode on the Motorola Droid X allows you to stitch together six photos in any direction, however you don't have to shoot six photos.

For example: If you would like to stitch together two photos, just continue though the panoramic sequence until the beep signals that the next frame has been exposed. Hold down the shutter button to cancel the sequence. The current number of photos from 2-6 will be stitched together.

Captain Ed pilots a Lobster sailboat built in 1910 in Bar Harbor, Maine.

In winter, he heads for summer in Antarctica, where he drives a forklift.

There are some pretty big challenges shooting panoramic images on a small boat. When objects are continuously changing position and your point of reference is constantly in motion, the next frame may entirely not match the reality of the frame you just shot.

A little patience and a few tries will give you a very original view of reality.
