Updating Ford Sync with AppLink for complete verbal control of Pandora on 2011 Fiesta

Update: Ten days using Ford Sync’s AppLink with Pandora – Jan 1, 2011
122310sync1.jpgFord’s Sync head unit on the 2011 Fiesta can be updated with AppLink via your account on their syncmyride.com website via a download with a clean USB storage device.
For Pandora, you will get a complete sync of the app via bluetooth, controlled by verbal commands and displayed on the Sync unit’s screen.
The screen on the phone reverts to a verbal only mode while in mobile operation.
My testing was with a Motorola Droid X, but AppLink also works with BlackBerry and will work with the iPhone sometime in 2011.
122310sync2.jpgThe AppLink update also works with apps Stitcher news radio and OpenBeak.
Pandora is started on the phone by giving Sync the verbal command Mobile apps>Pandora.
The app is started, plays and the current stations synced to the Sync head unit through the phone’s Bluetooth connection. The display lists song and artist and actively times song.
122310sync3.jpgVerbal commands can be given for Play, Pause, Skip, Pause, Resume, Thumbs up, Thumbs down, List songs, Create station by artist/song, etc.
The easiest way to learn the verbal commands using Ford Sync is give the verbal command Help. A list of avalable commands will be spoken.
Successful commands are displayed on the Sync screen.
Ford has gone to great pains to make the the self-updating site as idiot proof as possible with a detailed explanation of how to update your head unit using the USB connection. Upon concluding the update, you pair your USB drive up with the syncmyride.com website again to record the success of your update.
