VIDEO: Strangers unite on busy ramp near I-83 to rescue 10 ducklings

Ducklings are rescued from a busy highway exit ramp after they fell into a storm drain. Two motorists stop their day for a couple hours braving rain, mud, poison ivy, and climbing into the drain.

Justine French, of Hershey, stopped to help when they fell in and, Kelly Nicholson, of Springfield Township stopped next to climb into a storm drain.

Updated – An archive of odd stuff I hear on the police scanner

The sometimes sad, often odd and mostly amusing bits and pieces of life in York County, Pennsylvania tweeted while listening to York County Department of Emergency Services, 911 Communications from April 2010 to present while covering news for the York Daily Record/Sunday News.

The 381 tweets almost never made the paper or a web update, but are still a micro slice of life.

VIDEO Corbett honors Platts

Susan Corbett comes to York to honor Rep. Todd Platts for his art advocacy. The wife of Gov. Tom Corbett, and members of the local, state and national art community gather at the Cultural Alliance of York County. Jonathan Katz, chief executive officer for the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, presented Platts with a national leadership award. Katz, who helps supervise arts organizations in 50 states and six U.S. territories, said Platts’ support for the arts has been critical. Platts serves as the Republican co-chair for the Congressional Arts Caucus.

VIDEO: Titanic anchor

David Bupp’s art class is creating a life-sized replica of the Titanic’s anchor at the Christian School of York. The 18 foot by 11 foot paper-mâché wrapped foam is easier to lift than the original 15 ton Titanic anchor.

Verizon 4G LTE lives in York, Lancaster

2:30 pm Verizon 4G LTE is live on LTE capable devices in York and Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

It’s showing up on a Droid RAZR MAXX in West Manchester Township.

Unofficially, we should see it here for real in about 50 days.

A run though Speedtest saw a 7.5 MB/S download.

Adding York and Lancaster to will help close a gap between Verizon LTE 4G currently in Harrisburg and Baltimore. The Verizon 4G LTE network covers more than 200 million people in 203 markets across the U.S. as of  March 14.
