Property taxes will skyrocket
Everyone is screaming for property tax abolishment. But some of us support the very thing that is the basis for property tax increases. Property tax, as I understand, is used to fund our school systems. More homes mean more students, mean more school space to handle the influx and most importantly mean higher property taxes. The citizens in the Eastern school district will realize a dramatic increase.
There is no substantial industry to support this increase. That leaves only the home owners. Next time you read or hear the complaining about the proposed park, remember who is going to pick up the tab for the costs of the student population increase. You are!

Amen, Sister. Another fine example of good old York County common sense, and cents!
The perfect storm: build more houses, invite families from MD with school-age children to buy them, allow school directors to raise property taxes without constraint.
Each new student costs the average York County school district $11,500 per year. The average home generates $4,000 in school taxes. A family with 2 kids consumes $23,000 in educational services and pays $4,000.
Without a strong commercial/industrial sector to make up the difference, the burden has to fall on citizens who have no children in the system. It's that simple.
If you want to put an end to the madness, support the Plan for Pennsylvania's Future to (1) take the power to tax away from school boards and (2) eliminate school property taxes forever.
