Khouzam deserves justice
John E. Mickey states that Sameh Khouzam should face the justice system in Egypt, where he is wanted on allegations of murder, rather then our justice system here. But Mr. Mickey fails to recognize the difference between Egypt and America. While our justice system is far from perfect, the Egyptian government has a known and documented (by various human rights organizations) use of torture and abuse against its prisoners, as well as unjust trials and false convictions against religious minorities. And Sameh, being a Coptic Christian in a Islamic country, is a minority. Sending him back to Egypt is paramount to sending him to be tortured.

Unfortunately for Mr. Mickey, and others who feel the same, he has not seen the Egyptian police reports regarding the case against Sameh. Do most people know that the police records report the alleged murder victim's body to be found in three different positions? One report says she was found on her back, another on her stomach, and yet another on her right side. I'm not a criminal investigator, but common knowledge tells me that corpses do not move or switch positions. And that is only one example of the numerous discrepancies found within the reports
Sameh Khouzam is an innocent man, who was persecuted for his refusal to change his religious beliefs. He has repeatedly been the victim of human rights injustices while in Egypt, and is not faring much better in America. Sameh is still being detained in prison and is under the constant threat of being deported. If justice is truly to be served in this case, Sameh would not be sent back to Egypt, but released from prison and allowed to live his life freely, without the threat of torture, abuse, or detainment, from any government.
