Failure of government
The citizens of York need to step up and do something. We either organize ourselves legally to fill the void left by bureaucracy, or things will get worse.
Something’s got to give. Either the local government does what we pay it to, or we do it ourselves. These sound like threats, but are they? What is reasonable in this situation? Do we sit on our hands and say "Oh well, the police are unreliable, I’ll just stay inside my home for the rest of my life and pay my taxes for nothing."

There is another option. I hope I can put this in terms everybody American can understand: as taxpayers, we are entitled to some degree of safety by our government.
Either we get what we pay for, or we stop paying taxes.
To all the people that want to put their heads in the sand and do nothing about York’s crime epidemic, I have some questions for you. Why exactly do you pay your taxes?
To further put the electorate in its proper perspective, I say this: these thieves and robbers and drug dealers that are taking over our streets, they aren't paying taxes on the income they gain from their activities, and it is likely that they are not paying property taxes or school taxes, etc.
It should be clear now that law abiding, taxpaying citizens are being oppressed (even controlled violence) by law-breaking, non-taxpaying thugs because the tax money paid in by the law-abiding taxpayers isn't being managed properly by the representatives we, the electorate, have voted into position.
If anybody can tell me how this does not constitute a failure of government, I’m all ears. Otherwise, what is standard practice for a populace in this predicament? Instead of rioting and vigilantism, I propose holding government accountable.

Jason; are you proposing that Mayor Brenner spend about a month on night shift on the REAL streets of York, walking the beat like a police officer? Perhaps instead of hiding around the camera stage doing interviews about downtown restuarants or bragging about the new ballpark, he could spend some time ducking stray bullets or confronting a gangbanger. You really can't get a good feel for a problem until that beer bottle smacks you on the back of the head. How about it John? Lets get a little night shift organized and let the neighboorhood residents come out of hiding to help. Or would you prefer the city residents continue what was described before, stay in your house and send your taxes in, end of story?
It is either that, or go to bands of vigilantes that take the streets back then head to the corridors of government and do the same there, the time has come, the end is near.
