Fluoride is safe
Thank you for your support of fluoridation in our water. As a relatively new resident of York, it is very disappointing that my pediatrician needs to write prescriptions for my children to obtain “fluoride” vitamins in an attempt to protect my children’s teeth. These vitamins cost approximately $60 per child per year when fluoride could be added to our water for pennies per month. My children do not like the taste of these vitamins which are chewable and coat their teeth. Prior to moving to York and living in several communities with fluoridation in the water, my children never got a cavity.

Fluoride is not a toxic waste product when administered properly. That is why York pediatricians and York dentists recommend fluoride vitamins for the protection of children’s teeth. Dentists have the greatest financial gain from treating residents that do not have access to fluoride in their water, yet dentists recommend fluoride to ensure the best dental health for their patients. However, fluoridated water is more effective in preventing tooth decay than topical vitamins. Test results show that by adding minute amounts of fluoride (.7 to 1.2 parts per million) to water, tooth decay is reduced 20 to 40 percent.
Overwhelming scientific evidence indicates that fluoride is safe. Many studies have tried to link disease with fluoridation in water but have failed to show a correlation. Fluoridation of water is endorsed by the American Dental Association, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Surgeon General, and the American Medical Association among others. In a document entitled “Fluoride and Drinking Water Fluoridation”, the American Cancer Society states that “scientific studies show no connection between cancer rates in humans and adding fluoride to drinking water.” Presently, 405 million people in 60 countries have fluoridation in the water. Of that, 170 million people in the U.S. presently have fluoridation in their water. Two-thirds of the population served by public water systems is fluoridated. Much of this data is available from the American Dental Association. It is about time that York Water Company customers had the privilege of fluoridated water.

It doesn't matter if fluoride is safe or not, that's not the issue here. The issue is FORCED MEDICATION of people who do NOT WANT to be medicated. When there is a ready, inexpensive alternative way to get this chemical into your childrens' bodies, you have no right to force the rest of York County to take it against their wills just to save you a couple bucks and some minor inconvenience.
Aspirin has been shown to be safe and prevents heart attacks when taken daily. Should we ask the York Water Co. to add aspirin to the taps? A glass of red wine taken daily has been shown to have the same benefit. Should we send a county employee to everyone's home to force them to drink a glass of merlot every day? I can get my aspirin at Wal Mart and my wine at the state store. You can get your fluoride at the pharmacy.
Way to go Allan! Great points! Let's see.. maybe they should brush their teeth 3 times a day, floss each day and rinse with mouthwash. Oh, and maybe drink plenty of milk ans stay away from soda and tea! I bet that those kids drink way too much sugar and don't brush and floss like they are supposed to!If they did that their teeth would be just fine. I agree that York Water Co. should not be putting fluoride in the water. If people want it then buy bottled water with flouride!!
Yes it is a toxic waste. That is determined from its source not how it is used.
So let call it for what it is, a fluoride containing compound
hydro fluorosilicates
Hydro = from the water in the air scrubbers
And fluorosilicates = is the byproduct of mining that is scrubbed out of the air and is toxic =
Toxic Waste
Julie I would have to say you need to do a little research
as the mother of a child who has died from bone cancer, I am tragically aware of the dangers of fluoride-Christopher Bryson's book "The Fluoride Deception" is a must-read for every American citizen-The Europeans are a bout ten years ahead of us on this issue.
Julie, exactly what "overwhelmingly scientific evidence" have you personally read lately about fluoride's so-called safety? You must have missed the 2006 National Research Council/National Academies 500 page report, Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Scientific Review of EPA's Standards. This watershed report, from our nation's highest scientific advisers, clearly identifies many adverse health effects that can occur at, and even below, the l ppm levels in fluoridated water. Look beyond the fluoridation "parrot-speak" for the truth. You owe it to your children.
