Keep them locked up

| | Comments (1)

The citizenry was greeted Monday morning with the news that yet another woman was killed in a drug deal in York. We area citizens have had just about all we can stand of this lawlessness!

When crime runs rampant and out of control, as is obvious in York, we decent citizens lose a large part of our freedom. We don't dare go into York after dark, and even in broad daylight we must avoid entire sections, such as the South Side. There are some evening meetings of civic groups in York, which I would like to attend; however, I don’t dare venture into downtown York at night; thus, a portion of my freedom has been taken away.

Drive-by shootings, killing of citizens who are innocently sitting on their own front steps, public street muggings, home invasions, and endless, out-of-control chaos overwhelms York today. This represents a total breakdown of the justice system. The police are doing their job, but as fast as they can drag these derelicts in, the revolving-door policies of liberal judges and parole boards keep returning them to the streets where they continue to prey on the innocent. These criminals, who now unquestionably have control of the city, should be incarcerated early in their crime careers and kept in prison.

When it comes to fighting crime, no city can afford to “overlook the little things and concentrate only on the big things.” Take a lesson from Mayor Rudy Giuliani who cleaned up New York City crime through his motto of “nip the little things in the bud and the big things won’t get a chance to happen.” The justice system should lock up criminals early in their careers and keep them locked up. That is the only way you will clean up the streets of York and return freedom of movement to decent, taxpaying citizens. There is an old Chinese saying: "Society has the right to rid itself of rabid dogs."

I think if our rights are being taken away, by us not being able to come out at night, being afraid of bullets flying, referring to the shooting that just happened this morning on State and Walnut streets, then people who want to hang out at night, their rights should be taken away, too! If they are hanging out then the police should stop them, question them, by the simple presence of a police officer walking up to them would scare them off this street. I know as a resident around here, they are hanging out just drinking, smoking marijuana, and selling drugs. Most of them are underage and need to be at home!! We are trying to buy houses on this street and rehab them and sell them to good people, to fix up and clean up our neighborhood, but at this rate, with 3 shootings in one month, no good person is going to want to live here. The problem is with all these people who DO NOT live on Walnut street, but want to hang out here!!
