Water fluoridation
It is clear why water customers would oppose water fluoridation. The main reason is cost. Water fluoridation will be paid by all water customers with the water company’s new chemical costs, pumps, and labor to satisfy fluoride requirements. Another reason is that water fluoridation does not benefit all water customers.

The primary benefit of fluoride is for children with teeth developing. Why should water companies be required to add fluoride for the benefit of a small population segment? Also, water fluoridation is very wasteful based on population benefit. Consider that the largest portion of fluoridated water will be consumed for washing clothes, bathing, watering plants, and fire protection without any health benefits but the same associated costs. Water fluoridation is not the best method with regards to cost versus benefit.
Why not distribute fluoride tablets in schools or in dental offices? Water fluoridation is as impractical as adding any mineral or supplement to drinking water primarily to benefit to a small segment of the population.
The water industry should not be involved in mass medication. Let water professionals provide a safe and adequate supply of drinking water and doctors and dentists provide health care.

Having come from a part of the world where natural fluoride is high and then being educated in the UK where fluoride was added to the water along with fluoride treatments in school, I suffer from fluorosis.
Personally I can see no good reason to medicate an entire population on any grounds. I find it immoral.
Fluoride is a toxin (as stated on toothpaste packaging) the swallowing of which needs emergency medical help. According to research its toxicity lies in between that of lead and arsenic.

Currently there is a plan to add lithium to the water supplies after tests done in Japan found the population more docile - they should be, lithium is used in the treatment of manic depression and bi-polar disorders. This can be found as a BBC report here.
This amounts to the medicating, drugging and poisoning of entire populations without their consent.
