Here's to PASA
Three cheers for the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA). Their Harvest Celebration Dinner at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts and Hilton Harrisburg Sept. 14 definitely lived up to its promotion as “the food event of the season.”
A benefit for the non-profit, the event’s success is a direct extension of the work done daily by the organization and its 4,000 plus members to promote profitable farms which produce healthy food for all people while respecting the natural environment.

With 100 percent of the vegetables served being organic, 100 percent of the meat pasture-raised, and 100 percent of the dairy products coming from cows free of artificial hormones, one could feel even better partaking of the spectacular feast laid out before us. There is something very empowering about eating food grown by people one knows and trusts -- and this dinner provided that plus the companionship of over 250 other people who support the same ideas and ideals.
The evening was also a great reminder to put one’s money where one’s mouth is by supporting area farm stands, producer markets, and even the new Wegman’s store in Mechanicsburg which has a long history of supporting farmers close to its stores.
So here’s to good ecological and economical stewardship, here’s to incredibly delicious, wholesome PA food, and here’s to PASA -- from a very appreciative “eater” who applauds your ongoing dedication.
