Leave the students alone

| | Comments (21)

I read the article about the so called rally at vo-tech. that story is incorrect. there was not a ralley it was the same people wearing the same clothes and driving the same vehicals. Dr. kraft does not tell the truth when it comes to the whole story. the artical failed to mention the fact that on thursday they school decided to bring in tow trucks during lunch and tow and truck or car that had any confederate attair on it. To me taking kids out of class to remove a symbol on their truck is worse than tthey having it on their. This whole confederate thing is dump if a school because out of control thats on thing if not leave the students alone. The confederate flag is a symbol of pride to those who faught and the civil rights they wished. Alot of races faught in that war for the south, which seems to be forgotten. It is not races until someone makes it racial. Not every southern person believed in slavery. if this symbol is banned because someone thinks its races then everything that bothers someone should be banned to. Your being offensive to those who have pride in that flag. i wish that the artical would have expressed those thoughts. and about the school facts need to be straightened out.

Chelsea,
maybe you should spend more time on spelling than out in the parking lot worrying about "races"...
Vo Tech what is happening there? I hope she is learning a trade!!

Chelsea,
For the sake of this argument, I am assuming that you are a student at Vo-Tech. What you put in print is the first impression that others have of you and your skills. This includes a job application form and your resume.

Your failure to run a 30-second spelling and grammar check on your published piece is an immediate no-hire, red flag for my business. It tells me that you will give my customers the same consideration as this letter – very little. Listen to your English teacher, he or she is trying to help you move into the adult working world. If you speak strongly and clearly in print, your message will spread further, and receive more consideration by others.

As to the content of you letter, speak up often for what you believe in, and be ready to accept that others will have a different opinion. You chose an appropriate public forum for the statement of your beliefs. I would rather see students making their point by writing letters to the editor, than driving erratically and without caution in a parking lot.

How could I have guessed as I scrolled down this opinion letter I would find the only two english teachers in York County had to sign in on her spelling and sentence stucture, rather than the content of her opinion. Let me give you a task, say repairing your own car and let me know how perfectly that works out for you. More John Kerry followers. Those who can't get into college, go to Iraq. Grasp my point?

Brian - I'm not one of the previous posters, but I actually had trouble understanding her opinion because of the horrible grammar and spelling. So it's not all about being petty.

Hey Sean Hannity, I mean ah Brian, put down the kool aid, and think about it, before you start bringing or better yet assuming ones political ideology. It is merely a commentary on an essay that looks like it was written by a 3rd grader.

The Stars and Bars symbolize a failed culture whose rejection of the balance between federal and states' rights led to a war which they lost. Most people who claim pride in Southern history and heritage are poorly educated racists who fly the flag to annoy others.

Thanks Growing Tired. Just a few months back, I was admonished for replying to a letter written by "A Third Grader" about her mommy hitting a deer because of all the bad hunters. The spelling and grammer in that letter was perfect. So you really are saying this girl has an education level lower than a third grader even? So her points need dismissed and the school was absolutely correct in how they handled the situation? As for Sean Hannity and the John Kerry reply, you should have laughed it off like John did. He didn't mean it how it sounded. Or did he?

Only in York would someone refer to you as an "english teacher" and mean it as an insult.

Yep and only in York do we have a self proclaimed authority on government and history like "GAS BAG" SPANGLER.........is this a great area or what ?

Not gonna feed the troll.

Wow... lol.
I also had trouble understanding the article. When I was in third grade, most of my fellow students and I knew how to use proper punctuation as well as decent spelling.

I would almost like to write an article (again) about the war of Northern Agression. Our reconstructed history books do tell the tale the winners have spun. Mr. McClure's Sunday topic was enough to make me gag.

I would like to know why there was no outrage over the hate crime of stuffing someone's free speech in the tail pipe of their vehicle - that could have caused some major trouble, let alone hurt feelings.

Naturally, I believe in the Southern cause in it's noble sense. Drag-racing trucks in a parking lot doesn't sound very noble to me....

Katie, you break my heart. The noble cause they fought for was the "right" of one man to own another. The "heritage" you treasure is chains and the whip.

I don't know if you're still reading this dryfly... but the cause of the South was very noble. If they would have won we wouldn't have the Big Brother government we have today - it was about a state's right to make it's own laws. Every other nation of the time was peacefully eliminating the slave system, while the North was planning for a slave population - i.e. the federal government now tells you how to run your small business, etc.

You were indoctrinated with the winner's side of the story. Of course Honest Abe played the "poor old slave" card, but if you look into it, you'll find his pre-war, pro-White quotes & be amazed : )

Really, the slave system was already well on it's way out - the average Southern plantation owner was granting freedom to his own slaves by the end of his lifetime (in other words, he was not passing on his slaves to his posterity). Beside that - many slaves were far better off living in sub-standard American conditions than they were in Africa. Wouldn't you agree? Most of the Africans taken to be slaves were captured by their some of own people and they lived without even the security of our nation's slaves.

If you look at the things that Generals such as Sherman said & did, you'll find the North had much more of a hate-centered culture than the South.
